      I believe that if you die with the backpack all items in it will be dropped, it works as an extension of the inventory and not as a vault/enderchest, only difference is that it can only be accessed through a command. The backpack upgrades will not be reset though. (Keep in mind that I'm not completely sure about this but I'll test it in an hour or so.)
